“And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together.” – Romans 8:17 (KJV)
An heir is a son who has been groomed to take over his father’s throne or estate. As a child of God, you are being groomed to take over God’s estate. We are already seated with Jesus Christ in heavenly places. However, on earth we need to be nurtured to live as kings and priests (Revelations 1:6). This involves going through suffering for the name of Christ.
Beloved, when you are born again, the world will oppose you because you are no longer in the world (John 15:18–19). You may suffer rejection, disappointments, poverty, lack, demotion, pain, etc. The good news is that all these will come to an end and your time of glorification will come. This is a time where your tears are wiped off and you begin to enjoy a life of prosperity. No wonder Jesus Christ said we should be of good cheer because He has overcome the world (John 16:33).
Dear beloved, if you are going through a time of suffering, be encouraged by the opening Scripture to press on. Very soon you will be glorified. Remember that God’s purpose for allowing you to go through a period of suffering is to enrich you with perseverance, character, and hope (Romans 5:3-4). Thus, your character will be built up to keep winning as the true heir of God. Hallelujah! You are an overcomer!
Prayer Point: My dear heavenly Father, I’m so grateful to be Your heir and joint heir with Jesus Christ. I submit myself to Your grooming no matter how challenging it may be, so that I can have the character that You want me to have; to live up to Your expectation and be a blessing to many in Jesus’ name. Amen!
