“How good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity … there the LORD commanded the blessing – life forevermore.” – Psalm 133:1, 3 NKJV

Mount Hermon is the highest mountain on the east coast of the Mediterranean Sea. Always snowcapped, it stands in contrast to the surrounding land, much of which is relatively flat. David, who wrote Psalm 133, saw Mount Hermon often. One of those occasions was when Israel fought against Ammon and a mercenary army from Syria.

In the face of battle, David’s general, Joab, recognized that unity was vital for victory. He told his brother, Abishai, “If the Syrians are too strong for me, then you shall help me; but if the people of Ammon are too strong for you, then I will come and help you” (2 Samuel 10:11). These brothers and their troops fought together, and God brought them victory.

The Bible reminds us that God wants this kind of unity in our Christian lives. Jesus prayed that His followers would “be one just as We are one” (John 17:22). And the Spirit fell on the church when “they were all with one accord in one place” (Acts 2:1). In the same way, the Bible urges God’s people to be united and work together. Seek first His Kingdom. Serve Him.

Pray for unity among believers. Pray that we might work together to serve God. Ask Him to give you love for others, even those with whom you have disagreements. Let the Spirit fill you with His love. Let that love overflow so others can see Jesus in you.

Prayer
Father, show me clearly the mission You have given me. Use me for Your Kingdom. Help me to be a blessing to others. In Jesus’ name, amen.
