“For it is better, if the will of God be so, that ye suffer for well doing, than for evil doing.” – 1 Peter 3:17 (KJV)
As a child of God, you could be going through a lot of suffering for choosing to do right. Doing what is right does not always bring to us the goodness that we deserve. Sometimes you may choose to do right but suffer for it. For example, you go to church, but thieves broke into your house to steal your belongings.
Would you say that if you had stayed at home perhaps the thieves would not have broken into your house? Certainly not! Or you went to preach the gospel to someone only to find out that you have been beaten for the sake of preaching to save a soul. Will you stop preaching because of what you have suffered? Certainly not! Apostle Paul suffered severally for well-doing (2 Corinthians 11:23–33).
Beloved, we need to be encouraged by the opening scripture that sometimes we may suffer for choosing to do right. However, it is better to suffer as a child of God for doing right than for doing evil because God will always ensure that your good act or course is surely rewarded (Matthew 5:11).
Dear beloved, are you suffering for doing right? Draw inspiration from the life of Apostle Paul and our Lord Jesus Christ and keep doing good. Remember that just as Jesus Christ was anointed by the Holy Spirit and He went about doing good, we are also called to emulate Him, and God will bless us (Acts 10:38). Hallelujah! Glory to God!
Prayer Point: Dear heavenly Father, thank You for calling me not only to believe but to suffer for Your name’s sake. Please give me more grace to endure suffering in well-doing.
I pray for Christians all over the world who are suffering for standing for the right course, that they never lose heart but continually live the life of Christ for the world to see and draw closer to Jesus Christ. Let their reward far outweigh their suffering in Jesus’ name. Amen!
