“Keep thy heart with all diligence for out of it [are] the issues of life.” – Proverbs 4:23

We protect so many things in our lives. We protect our homes through locks and alarm systems. We protect our information through passwords. We protect our vehicles from the weather by parking them in the garage. These are all things we should do to protect that which is valuable to us.

But the question I must ask you today is this: what have you done to protect your heart? Have you set safeguards up to protect your mind and your emotions? The writer of Proverbs reminds us of this truth in our verse today because the heart is what defines who we are. Everything we do comes from our heart. Everything we say comes from our heart. So, if there is anything that needs to be protected…it is our heart!

Dear, the way to guard your heart is to be careful about what you allow through your eyes and ears because they are the gateways to the heart. You protect your heart by being aware of the content in the movies you watch. You are careful about the lyrics of the music you listen to.

You must also be aware of the conversations you are part of and the impact those conversations have on your thinking and your emotions. There are so many things you can do to protect your heart.

So do some analysis today about what you are letting in through your eyes and ears. Your heart is the most precious possession you have…do not let anything get to it!
