“Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.” – Matthew 6:19–21 (KJV)
Jesus Christ is indeed the manifestation of the Father’s glory. He is the express image of the Father (Hebrews 1:3). No wonder the fullness of the Godhead dwells in Him (Colossians 2:9).
Thus, being well acquainted with heaven revealed that we can lay up treasures in heaven while living on Earth. Dear beloved, where are you laying up your treasures? A treasure is something of value. There is a vast difference between heavenly treasures and earthly treasures. We can see this in the opening scripture; heavenly treasures cannot be destroyed by moth and rust like earthly treasures can. Heavenly treasures also cannot be stolen because there are no thieves in heaven like on the earth, which is full of thieves and even armed robbers.
Beloved, this is a wake-up call for us to prioritize the kingdom business of promoting the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ so that the Word of God can transform lives to the glory of God. Jesus Christ went about doing good and healing all those who were oppressed by the devil (Acts 10:38). He wants us who believe in Him to continue His good work by giving hope to the hopeless, faith to the faithless, and showing love to all, especially the vulnerable and disadvantaged in society. These acts of righteousness we spend our resources on lay-up treasures in heaven, where God keeps them for us to embrace in eternity. Hallelujah! Glory to God!
Prayer Point: My loving Father, thank you for your wonderful Word. I’m really blessed today. I’m already doing your work on the earth. Please give me more insight into other areas to cover for you. And let Christians all over the world join in to promote the gospel and save lives, in Jesus’ name. Amen!
