“When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things.” – 1 Corinthians 13:11 (KJV)

Growing out of childishness is the beginning of enjoying adulthood. God has a good reason for creating the stages of life: childhood, juvenile, teenage, and adulthood. All these stages are relevant to the growth and development of the human being.

The way children behave is quite different from adults. The opening scripture describes how children behave; they speak first, understand, and then think. This accounts for the numerous mistakes they make. On the contrary, adults think first, understand their thoughts, then speak or act.

Dear beloved, if you are above the age of eighteen and you are fond of acting first before you think or understand, then it is time to grow up because you are behaving childishly. In order to grow out of childishness, feed your spirit daily with the Word of God, pray in the Spirit, fellowship with the Holy Spirit, and learn from your mentor (1 Peter 2:2, Colossians 3:16–17). Then, as you keep practicing the Word of God, your spirit begins to grow into maturity, and you begin to behave like an adult.

Remember also to give thanks to God always because complaining is a sign of childishness. Before long, you will experience maturity and be prepared to handle great and difficult tasks to the glory of God. Hallelujah! Be an overcomer!

Prayer Point: Dear heavenly Father, thank you for your timely Word. Please make me conscious of growing up and lead me to grow out of childishness into adulthood in Christ in order to be prepared to handle great and difficult tasks in your Kingdom, in Jesus’ name. Amen!
