“But I say unto you, That ye resist not evil: but whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also.” – Matthew 5:39 (KJV)

The Word of God exhorts us to fellowship with one another. During the fellowship, we may step on one another’s toes. This is not something that is superficial since we are human beings and are bound to make mistakes one way or another. Beloved, therefore the opening Scripture exhorts us to forgive one another and give one another a second chance to prove ourselves.

The Amplified version makes it clearer; it says, “But I say to you, do not resist an evil person [who insults you or violates your rights]; but whoever slaps you on the right cheek, turn the other toward him also [simply ignore insignificant insults or trivial losses and do not bother to retaliate—maintain your dignity, your self-respect, your poise].” Yes, it is painful when a brother or sister offends you, but God wants us to make a provision in our heart where we will not count sins against one another (Matthew 18:21–22). He wants us to be forgiving towards one another to enhance the unity and the peace of our fellowship (Ephesians 4:32). Therefore, let your heart be free from anger and bitterness so that the blessings of God coming into your life may not be hindered. Praise the Lord! Be an overcomer!

Prayer Point: Dear Lord Jesus, thank You for inspiring me to give a second chance to my offenders. Please give me the grace to always forgive anyone who offends me. I pray for all Christians that we develop a forgiving heart toward people so that they can see the love of Christ in us and repent. Amen!
